Woven Barrettes

I found a lovely blog! Pink and Green Mama is full of wonderful crafts and fun things to do with your littles! I love all of the fantastic stuff she has on her site! The kids and I have really enjoyed doing some of the fun crafts. But we are just getting started! She has so much!
At the end of January she posted a link to make some pretty barrettes. I remember these! And I knew Sassy would love wearing them too! So I went to the link at Family Fun and looked over the directions. I had the ribbon from scrapbooking and making other barrettes for Amiah, I just needed to find the barrettes. From the comments I was afraid I would have a problem finding them. But found them when I stopped at the local Dollar General to pick up something I had forgotten in town. So if you try these, check out your local DG for the barrettes.
The barrettes aren’t hard. Weaving the ribbon in and out was a little tricky, but I moved more quickly after I chose a technique. I haven’t decided how I want to cover up the barrette at the starting end or the right way to finish it off. I’m still messing around with that and if you have any hints I would love to hear them! Also when she wore one of the barrettes, with the lace and her hair, it was a tight fit. I’ve decided to experiment with a wider ribbon and different weaving patterns.
And without further ado, here are the two barrettes I finished. She wore the burgundy and white one to church yesterday.
On the burgundy and white one, I twisted the ribbon at the top because I was trying to cover the beginning end. It ended up looking neat so I left it the way it was!
Cost of supplies.
Barrettes a card of 6 barrettes was $1.50
Ribbon was .19 cents a yard if you buy it buy the yard. Mine was less because I had the spools of it.
And my time.
Very fun!
