Philippians 4:6-7 Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God. And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.

This time of year is always hard for me. I hadn’t realized that before. But in looking back through my prayer journals (hand written ones) I noticed this pattern. I start doubting my choices of homeschooling, staying at home, of just being who I know God has called me to be. My patience is thin and my attitude tends toward the really stinky negative side. I draw inside myself. I would rather stay at home than go out socially. I have trouble sleeping. I tend toward the emotional. But if I can just hold on for a bit longer…until March or April, I’m fine. But these first couple of months of the year are just hard. They just are.

I’ve also noticed that during this time, I pray more. A bit because I’m desperately seeking a way out of how I feel inside. But more because I know where my peace comes from. I know what the Source is.

The question “Do you believe in ghosts?” from last Fridays Five Question Friday by Mama M really sparked some conversations in our home. It was during one of those conversations I remembered the verse Ephesians 6:12 For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places. And I used this verse to talk to our boys about that question. But it stuck in my head and it made me think of the struggle that I am dealing with. I don’t want to lessen how I feel, but I don’t want to give it that much weight either.

So that’s what I’m dealing with right now. It feels unbelievably heavy, but I know the God who gives me peace. And so I’ll keep my heart and mind on Jesus Christ.

Lovey Dovey Five Question Friday

Posted in Uncategorized at 11:03 pm by ammiejo

My Little Life

Friday already? And Valentine’s Day weekend! Mama M cooked up a whole week of  Valentine-ness. But I missed it. I hope some of you linked up and told your love stories!

Rules: Copy and paste the following questions to your blog post, answer them, grab the blog hop code (if you’d like) and link up! I would love you forever and ever, amen…if you’d link back to me, Mama M!
If you don’t have a blog (get one) share your answers in the comments here, or on any blog along the way!
Okay, let’s get started…
Questions for Friday, 2/12/10: (Thanks to Jennifer, Maryanne (private blog), Heidi, Jodi, and Jessica for their question suggestions!! Wanna be linked in a future 5QF? Head on over here, to my community and offer up your best questions!)
And so we begin…
1. What is the one thing your love does for you that you can’t live without?
Let’s just be honest here, he exists. Right? Seriously! I look forward to him coming home,  so I can yell, kids Dad’s home and watch with delight as they climb all over him so I can see his face and hug him tight! Ya know cause I miss him so much!
In all truth, he builds me up. On those days, weeks, or months that I’m feeling down. He reminds me of all the things that I’m doing right. He tells me that I’m beautiful and that he can’t get enough of me. So yeah, He builds me up!

2. When did you know your love was “the one”?
Our beginning was a rocky one. Entirely our fault, we just didn’t do our beginning right. And it took awhile to get things right. I can’t say when I knew he was “the one”, but I know when I knew I loved him.

3. Does your love have a special ringtone on your cell?
Yes, When you Love Someone by Brian Adams.

4. What are you attracted to most in your special someone?
Physically…his eyes. He has the bluest eyes and his smile is catching. The way he wraps his arms around me. I feel safe.
Emotionally…His Faith. He loves God and he loves our family.

5. Did you know when/where he/she was going to pop the big question?

We had decided we were going to get married, well before he ever actually proposed or bought a ring. We already had our oldest two boys. It was just a question of when. I had almost given up on the idea and I was feeling sad. It was Christmas ’98 and he asked me to marry him Christmas Eve beside the Christmas tree. Awwww….how sweet. And it was. I was so happy.

Woven Barrettes

Posted in barrette, Craft at 4:46 pm by ammiejo

I found a lovely blog! Pink and Green Mama is full of wonderful crafts and fun things to do with your littles! I love all of the fantastic stuff she has on her site! The kids and I have really enjoyed doing some of the fun crafts. But we are just getting started! She has so much!

At the end of January she posted a link to make some pretty barrettes. I remember these! And I knew Sassy would love wearing them too! So I went to the link at Family Fun and looked over the directions. I had the ribbon from scrapbooking and making other barrettes for Amiah, I just needed to find the barrettes. From the comments I was afraid I would have a problem finding them. But found them when I stopped at the local Dollar General to pick up something I had forgotten in town. So if you try these, check out your local DG for the barrettes.

The barrettes aren’t hard. Weaving the ribbon in and out was a little tricky, but I moved more quickly after I chose a technique. I haven’t decided how I want to cover up the barrette at the starting end or the right way to finish it off. I’m still messing around with that and if you have any hints I would love to hear them! Also when she wore one of the barrettes, with the lace and her hair, it was a tight fit. I’ve decided to experiment with a wider ribbon and different weaving patterns.

And without further ado, here are the two barrettes I finished. She wore the burgundy and white one to church yesterday.

Burgundy and whiteOn the burgundy and white one, I twisted the ribbon at the top because I was trying to cover the beginning end. It ended up looking neat so I left it the way it was!

Cost of supplies.

Barrettes a card of 6 barrettes was $1.50

Ribbon was .19 cents a yard if you buy it buy the yard. Mine was less because I had the spools of it.

And my time.

Very fun!

Five Question Friday

Posted in Five Question Friday at 2:23 am by ammiejo

So this is my first Five Question Friday and my first MckLinky too. Bear with me folks.

Rules for 5QF: Copy the following questions to your blog post, paste them, answer them, c’mon back and grab the MckLinky code (if you’d like), and then link up!! Easy peasy! I would also be very appreciative if you’d link back to, Mama M.!

If you don’t have a blog, feel free to jump in on the comments along the way! I’d love to hear your answers too!

Wanna be linked in a future 5QF? Just c’mon over here, to Mama M’s community, and offer up your best questions!)

1. What are you most afraid of?

I’m most afraid of dieing and leaving my children. Or even worse, something happening to my husband and having to do this on my own. My parents were separated when I was very young and divorced later. I want so much for my kids to grow up with both my husband and I present to love and to teach them.

My stepdad was awesome! He did so much for us and he loved us so much! But I wanted so much more from my dad than what he was there for. I know a lot of the decisions I made as a teenage girl were made out of that need for my dad to be there.

2. Do you use a flat iron or curling iron?

I only use a curling iron. My hair is board straight. There’s not so much as a wave, unless I put it there. The plus side is that it does curl easily and it holds a curl well.

I still have the curling iron that I bought on my honeymoon. (I forgot to pack mine.) Unfortunately, it was broken a couple of weeks ago. No one admitted to being the guilty party. That’s okay I wanted a new one anyway.

3. Hands-free or phone to the ear?

Phone to the ear. Not by choice, though.

The husband, has went through two hands free devices. I think he’s just rough on them.

I’d like to have one, for those really long phone conversations I’m always having. *snort* No really, I need both of my hands most of the time. To wash dishes, catch a child, fold the laundry, etc.

4. Do you have a matching bedroom set?

Nope. But it’s not really something that is high on my list of must haves. I’d much rather have a matching living room set first.

One would think that my dear husband would see my desire for that fluffy, comfortable couch/love seat or even a lush sectional that we could all cuddle up on. Alas, it’s not to be. Not yet, anyway.

5. Do you believe in the paranormal?

Not in the sense of ghosts of people who have lived. Yes, in the sense of spirit beings, good and evil. Angels and demons if you will. That I do believe.

And I believe in monsters under my bed. Don’t make fun. Seriously! I slept for years with the blankets pulled all the way up to  my neck so the monsters couldn’t grab my arms or legs. When I told my husband this he laughed every time he looked at me. All day long.
